The Minimum wage for employees of private companies will be increase by VND300,000 - VND650,000 per month to the new levels of VND1.4m to VND2.0m depending on the region of the country in which the employee works.  The increase will be extended to apply to domestic enterprises and foreign invested companies and will remain in force until the end of 2012.

The VND2.0m will apply to major cities such as Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, whilst the VND1.4m will apply to remote or disadvantaged areas.  These wage levels will also determine the basis for the calculation of allowances and social benefits.  The new laws stipulate that skilled employees should be paid seven time the minimum wage.  This means a skilled worker in Ha Noi should be paid a minimum of VND14m from 1st October (equivalent to £425.00 per month)
