New advisory fuel rates from 1st March 2011

HMRC have published new advisory fuel rates to be used from 1st March 2011. This is due to the rapid increases in petrol prices.

The Government has published details of the contracted-out rebate rates that will apply from 2012. The new rates have been laid in a draft Order. It is a legal requirement for the rates to be reviewed every 5 years.

Parish Council Clerks to fall under PAYE

HMRC have changed the legislation regarding payments to Parish Council Clerks (Community Council Clerks in Wales) and councils will now have to operate PAYE on payments made to them.

The National Minimum Wage (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2010 came into force with effect for pay periods starting on or after 1 January 2011 and will mean that travelling and subsistence expenses eligible for tax relief under section 338 Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003 will overall not count when calculating national minimum wage (NMW) pay.

Reported Problems with P9 codings

It has been brought to our attention that hundreds of incorrect tax codes seem to have been issued by HMRC relating to information provided on the P11d taxable benefit returns.

The Government has announced that there will be an additional bank holiday in June 2012 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

The additional holiday will be on Monday the 4th of June 2012 and in order to facilitate a long weekend of celebrations, the late May Bank Holiday will be moved to the 5th of June instead, meaning a Saturday to Tuesday holiday for many UK workers.
